After the success of Babe Ruth's visit to Japan, the Tokyo Giants(now known as the Yomiuri Giants) toured the U.S. in 1935. The Japanese characters on the back of their jerseys(not to mention the players' names) made it difficult for those in the crowd and the press box to fill in their score cards. In reponse, the Giants decided to put easily readable English block numbers on the right sleeve of each jersey. This 1935 road jersey from the Tokyo Kyojin(Giants) is made of heather gray wool with black piping around the neck and down the front of the jersey. It features the Tokyo shield crest in embroidered orange cream, and black chenille on the front, and has black double-piping at the end of each sleeve. Comes with number 18 in black felt block letters on the right sleeve, and features the Japanese Kanji for number 18 in black felt on both the left sleeve and on the back of the jersey.
