The Homestead Grays are one of the most popular and recognizable teams of the Negro Leagues. Playing in Homestead, Pennsylvania (just outside of Pittsburgh), and occasionally in Washington D.C., the Grays were known for their independence from League membership, but eventually joined the Negro National League. In 1937, with the help of the great Josh Gibson and Buck Leonard, the Grays began a string of nine consecutive NNL Championships, including three Negro World Series titles.
